Thursday's early morning tide at 01:45 on 19/12/2024 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Westerly Force 5 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.66 m. The total forecast tide is 5.19 metres Chart Datum (2.45 mAOD) at Chichester Harbour. For 2 hours either side of high water, the strong winds and large waves may push the tide to the top of the beach at Bracklesham, with possibility of a small amount of water flowing into ditches behind. Spray could also affect beach top properties at the end of West Sands Lane and Medmerry. Thursday afternoon's tide at 14:00 19/12/2024 is forecast to be 34 cm lower (2.16 mAOD). Strong winds and large waves are forecast for the next five days. However, as tide levels will generally fall over the week ahead, flood risk should reduce from Thursday afternoon, through to next week. We continue to monitor the forecast. The weather increases tide table values by 0.29 m. The total forecast tide is 5.31 metres Chart Datum (2.57 mAOD) at Chichester Harbour. For 2 hours either side of high water, the strong winds and large waves may push the tide to the top of the beach at Bracklesham, with a possibility of water flowing into ditches behind. Spray will affect beach top properties at the end of West Sands Lane and Medmerry. Monday's early morning tide at 02:15 21/10/2024 is forecast to be 57 cm lower (2.0 mAOD). With tides next week forecast to be lower, no further flood impacts are expected from Monday onwards. We continue to monitor the forecast. For 2 hours either side of high water, it is possible a small amount of water could flow over the beach crest and collect in the pools and fields near Medmerry Park Holiday Village, Bracklesham. A small amount of wave generated and wind blown spray could also affect beach top properties at the end of West Sands Lane and Medmerry. Tuesday’s early morning tide is forecast to be very similar again, but with slightly smaller waves. Tuesday’s afternoon tide and risk of flooding will be significantly lower. However, both tides Sunday are forecast to be lower than recent days, and with smaller waves. At 01:45 on 20/02/2022 strong Force 6 Westerly winds increases tide table values by 0.05 m. The total forecast tide is 4.83 metres Chart Datum (2.09 mAOD) at Chichester Harbour. For 2 hours either side of high water, it is possible a small amount of water could flow over the beach crest and collect in the pools and fields near Medmerry Park Holiday Village, Bracklesham. A small amount of wave generated and wind blown spray could also affect beach top properties at the end of West Sands Lane and Medmerry. Minor flood impacts could continue until Monday, while strong winds and large waves remain. Conditions should improve Tuesday 22/02/2022. For 2 hours either side of high water, strong winds and large waves will generate a significant amount of overtopping which will affect beach top properties at the end of West Sands Lane and Medmerry. Friday evening’s tide will be 50cm lower than Friday afternoon. Strong winds and large waves will continue over the weekend, albeit not as extreme. Tide heights will decrease by 10 cm each high water for the next two days. Strong South Westerly Force 5 to 6 winds will continue throughout Tuesday (02/02/2021), before easing on Wednesday (03/02/2021). Wave heights are still large and will increase on Tuesday evening, before decreasing on Thursday (04/02/2021). Shingle will still be moved and wave spray will affect sea front areas, particularly over the high tide periods (which are 14:30 on 02/02/2021, 03:00 and 15:15 on 03/02/2021). Small amounts of water may still potentially affect nearby fields, roads and beach top properties. However, the waves are not expected to run up the beach quite as much as they did on Monday. Please take care if visiting the sea front between Tuesday and Thursday. Large waves are very powerful and can contain hidden dangers such as flying debris. The total forecast tide is 4.97 metres Chart Datum (2.23 mAOD) at Chichester Harbour. For two hours either side of high tide, the high energy waves could run up the beach and affect beach top properties at the end of West Sands Lane and Medmerry. Tide levels should be a little lower Tuesday afternoon, with smaller waves and less impacts too. We continue to monitor the forecast. Large waves and moving shingle beaches can be dangerous.
